Virgil in a word... Leader
Virgil is a Hometown Hero because...
In an effort to strengthen the disaster response program in Fayette and Nicholas Counties Virgil is a disaster response trainer and trains volunteers in the chapter’s jurisdiction as well as contiguous chapters. In 2006 Virgil conducted 15 courses in an effort to deploy well-trained staff to Disaster Relief Operations that were ongoing.
After identifying that the number of single-family house fires was on the rise in the chapter’s jurisdiction, Virgil developed community-based preparedness information to be presented to low-income families where the rise of house fires was occurring. The chapter reached 545 people with disaster preparedness messages during FY 2006.
