Paul Browne, Thomas Michel in a word... Smart
Paul Browne, Thomas Michel is a Hometown Hero because...
After responding to a call that an 18-month old boy from Springfield had been seriously injured by a lawnmower, Police Sergeant Paul K. Browne and Officers Thomas P. Michel and Clayton J. Roberson, the first to arrive at the scene, immediately began administering First Aid to the child and began cruiser transport to Allen Street and Sumner Avenue. There, the boy was transferred to an ambulance. Arriving at the hospital in less than five minutes thanks to a police escort, Browne drove the ambulance to Baystate Medical Center so that both paramedics could tend to the boy. Due to the policemens' actions, the boy escaped bleeding to death by a matter of minutes.
