Michael is a Hometown Hero because...
When Michael Friedman was 15 years old, he was diagnosed with DSRCT, a rare and aggressive form of cancer.
During the months he spent in the hospital recovering from surgery or undergoing treatment, Michael passed the time playing video games or watching DVD’s. He quickly realized that other kids in his position were not as fortunate. So when he was granted a wish through the ‘Make a Wish Foundation’ he started the ‘Mikey’s Way Foundation’ and asked that his wish be a shopping spree to purchase electronic games, toys and activities for critically ill patients looking for ways to pass the long hours of treatment. Since then, he has raised more than $150,000 for the foundation and brightened the days of hundreds of children coping with cancer
