Bob in a word... Selfless

Bob is a Hometown Hero because...
Bob Fulton has committed to being a hero and saving lives since 1971 (36 years ago!) when he first donated blood. Bob has not only continued donating blood, he has continued to find ways to be involved in the Red Cross and to impact the lives of others. For the last 25 years Bob has faithfully donated platelets every 2 weeks. Then 15 years ago Bob began co-chairing American Red Cross blood drives at his church and hasn’t stopped since! In 1993 upon learning about the need for health and safety instructors at his home chapter, the Southern Maryland Chapter, Bob became and instructor and an instructor trainer in 1996. While Bob’s home chapter is the Southern Maryland Chapter, Bob works in DC and finds volunteering with the National Capital Area Chapter to be convenient for him.

More about Bob...
Bob works for the Government Printing Office (GPO) and got his start as a health and safety instructor with the GPO when he was asked to serve as a health and safety instructor in the office. After receiving his certification Bob realized that the La Plata community needed instructors for all the day care providers in the area. For the first year that Bob taught community CPR he used his daughter’s dolls in class to demonstrate life saving skills until the Chapter could afford the manikins ideal for the course.

Bob says that in order to enjoy life you have to stay active. “Teaching and helping others is the best way for me to do that.”
