In June of 2006, Stamford police officers Anna Zajac and John Buehler were dispatched to the Brewer Yacht Haven Marina on a report that a boat had capsized. Despite a rescue search by other officers, no victims were visible. After checking in with headquarters, they learned that one of the fishermen had clarified their location. Zajac and Buehler were not familiar with the spot, but a local overheard their conversation and offered to take them there. About a quarter mile out the officers spotted two fishermen sitting on top of a capsized vessel, and as they approached the boat the third emerged from under the water. The three fishermen were pulled into the boat and taken back to the dock where EMS and fire department personnel were waiting; they were released after examination.
